A Sunrise at Sunrise

Following our 10,000 mile road trip in the summer of 2022 and in continuation of our summer adventures - made possible by my work's Remote August implemented post-COVID - we decided to spend our 2023 August working remotely around Seattle. The plan was to spend ~1 week each at Mount Rainier National Park, North Cascades National Park, Mount Baker Wilderness, and Olympic National Park.

Our first stop was the aptly named Sunrise area of Mount Rainier National Park. With more time at each location this trip (half to a full week vs. 1-2 days historically), I was able to scout out different locations during the day before taking "the shot" during golden hour. This more deliberate approach to photography is an interesting deviation from the spontaneous, go-with-the-flow approach that I have come to appreciate recently. But I do like how this hyper planning theoretically further increases the chance of a great (albeit maybe not a unique, serendipitous) shot. The downside though: doubling the amount of walking...
