Icefield Parkway is one of the favorite drives I have done. It is great for some lazy, easy photography as well, since all you need to do is drive around in the early mornings. If the weather or cloud patterns are not ideal, no harm, because it is not like you took a risk with a multi-hour hike to get there! Just have a couple pullover stops in mind as you set out.
That is exactly what I did that morning. During the 3-4 days we were around Banff / Jasper, it was really cloudy, so every morning I just drove the Icefield Parkway back-and-forth hoping to get a break. I got lucky that day because there just happened to be a break in the clouds around Mount Chephren, so I went to the viewpoint I scouted out beforehand overlooking the mountain across the lake.
